ITZY, the popular K-pop girl group, has officially announced the upcoming release of their 3rd Japanese single, titled “Algorhythm.” Fans can expect this highly anticipated single to drop on May 15, 2024, at midnight JST.

The release promises to captivate listeners with its title track “Algorhythm,” which is accompanied by a b-side track named “No Biggie.” Additionally, the single will feature instrumental versions of both tracks, offering fans a unique listening experience that showcases the intricate musical compositions behind the group’s captivating melodies.

Lia
 will not be participating in this album as she continues to focus on her recovery from an anxiety disorder.

What Is Itzy?

ITZY (Korean: 있지, Japanese: イッチ) is a five-member girl group under JYP Entertainment. They debuted on February 12, 2019 with the digital single “IT’z Different”.

Pre-debut

Prior to their debut, the members had previous experience in the industry. Chaeryeong was a contestant on the SBS competition show K-pop Star 3 in 2013. She then went to compete in JYP survival show SIXTEEN in 2015, however, she failed to become a member of the winning girl group, TWICE. Ryujin was a contestant on JTBC’s survival show MIXNINE from 2017 to 2018 and she placed first for girls but lost in the final competition to the boys team. Yeji was a contestant on SBS’ The Fan but was eliminated in episode 5. All of the members, with the exception of Lia, appeared in Mnet’s reality show Stray Kids as a project group against the boy group Stray Kids in 2017.
2019: Debut with “IT’z Different”, fandom name, first comeback with IT’z Icy, Premiere Showcase Tour

On January 20, JYP Entertainment released a prologue film introducing their next girl group, ITZY. The group consists of five members: Yuna, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, Lia, and Yeji.

On January 24, JYPE revealed the group would debut with the single “IT’z Different”. On February 11, a music video teaser for the single’s title track, “Dalla Dalla”, was released. The music video was released on February 11 and the single on the 12th. The group held their live premiere the same day as the single’s release. The music video for “Dalla Dalla” counted 13,933,725 views (manually, Youtube confirmed it to be 17.1 million views) in its first day, breaking the record for most viewed music videos in the first 24 hours by a K-pop group in its debut, which previously was of IZ*ONE with the song “La Vie En Rose”.

On July 7, ITZY’s fans gained a name: MIDZY. The name was revealed by the group’s social medias, almost 5 months after their debut.

On July 10, ITZY released the first teaser images for their first mini album, IT’z Icy, which was released on July 29.

On July 29 at 12AM KST, the group released the music video for their comeback title track “Icy”. The music video was seen 18 million times within its first day.

On September 22, JYPE announced ITZY’s showcase tour titled ITZY Premiere Showcase Tour “ITZY? ITZY!”. A showcase tour kicked off in Jakarta on November 2 which would then go on to different cities in Asia throughout the end of 2019 before heading to the United States for five shows in January 2020.

2020: IT’z Me, Not Shy

On January 28, it was reported that Itzy had finished filming their music video for a new song and are in the final stages of comeback preparations.

On February 19, the first teaser for IT’z ME the group’s second mini album was revealed through social media, with “Wannabe” serving as the title track the mini album was released on March 9. The title song ‘”Wannabe” delivers the message of “One and only ME”, which is about showing their unique colors that do not live up to others standards.

On July 30, an opening trailer was revealed through the official JYPE channel on YouTube revealing the name of the group’s third mini album Not Shy which was released on August 17. The title song “Not Shy” is an up tempo R&B dance song with quick beats and intense saxophone, and candid vocals about the emotions of being deeply in love and not caring about how things will end.

2021: “Not Shy (English Ver.)”, “Trust Me (MIDZY)”, Guess Who, Crazy In Love and Japanese debut

The group released their first English digital single album “Not Shy (English Ver.)” on January 22. The single contains English versions of every title track of their previous releases.

On March 13, it was revealed that the group would release a special single as a gift for their fans with Korean and English versions. The single “Trust Me (MIDZY)” was released on March 20.

On March 22, a teaser posted via the group’s social medias announced they will make a comeback on April 30 with their fourth mini album called Guess Who. On April 12, it was revealed that the album’s title track would be called “마.피.아. In the Morning”, in an article JYPE revealed that the group would try to win the taste of global fans using a bolder and more intense charm. The album was released on April 30 at 12AM EDT (1PM KST).

On March 30, it was announced that the group would be the first-ever musical group signed to the brand Maybelline New York as the newest global spokesmodels. The group appeared first in Maybelline’s Hypersharp Liner, Ultimatte Lipstick, and SuperStay Foundations campaigns in Asia during the spring.

On the midnight of August 13, ITZY released a comeback poster for their first full album Crazy In Love, which was released on September 24. “Loco” served as the album’s title track.

On October 25, ITZY released a teaser for their debut Japanese best album IT’z ITZY that was released on December 22.

2022: “Voltage”, Checkmate, first world tour, “Blah Blah Blah”, “Boys Like You”, Cheshire

On February 24, ITZY announced that they will release their first Japanese single “Voltage” on April 6.

On June 2, ITZY announced they will be coming back with their fifth mini album, Checkmate, on July 15. Furthermore, the group will kick off their first world tour, also entitled Checkmate, with two nights of concerts in Seoul on August 6 and 7, before heading to the United States.

On June 22, American singer Bebe Rexha announced collaboration remix with ITZY, called ‘Break My Heart Myself’, which will be released on June 29. On June 28, Rexha tweeted a snippet of the upcoming single.

On August 22, ITZY announced that they will release their second Japanese single “Blah Blah Blah” on October 5.

On Octber 16, ITZY announced that they will release their pre-release English single “Boys Like You” on October 21.

On November 8, ITZY announced that they will release their sixth mini album Cheshire on November 30.

2023: Kill My Doubt, Ringo, Lia’s hiatus

On February 23, ITZY announced their first Japanese album in the fall of 2023, in a YouTube video.

On May 22, on Good Day New York, Chaeryeong confirmed that they are preparing to make a comeback with an album in summer 2023.

On June 19, a teaser video was posted on the group’s social media accounts which revealed that ITZY will be releasing their seventh mini album, Kill My Doubt, on July 31.

On August 7, ITZY posted the photos with caption: “Bring me an Apple!” on their social media, announcing their Japanese comeback. It was later revealed that they would be releasing their first Japanese full-length album Ringo on October 18. On August 30, ITZY released their first Japanese digital single “Trust Me (MIDZY) -Japanese ver.-” as a pre-release for their first Japanese full-length album. On October 11, ITZY released thier second Japanese digital single “Sugar-holic” as a pre-release for their first Japanese full-length album.

On September 18, JYP Entertainment announced that Lia will be going on hiatus due to symptoms of extreme tension and anxiety. On November 17, JYP Entertainment announced that due to Lia’s hiatus, she will be absent from their new album’s production on January 2024 and their world tour.

2024: Born To Be, “Algorhythm”

On December 3, the group released an announcement video for their eighth mini album Born To Be, set for release on January 8, 2024.

On March 27, ITZY announced that they will be releasing their third Japanese single “Algorhythm” on May 15.
