Group History
TWICE was formed through the survival reality show SIXTEEN, which aired in 2015. The show featured sixteen trainees competing for a spot in the new girl group. The final lineup was decided through audience votes and JYP’s selection, leading to the formation of a nine-member group instead of the initially planned seven. They officially debuted on October 20, 2015, with their first mini-album, The Story Begins, featuring the hit single “Like Ooh-Ahh” .
Rise to Fame
TWICE quickly gained popularity, particularly with their 2016 single “Cheer Up,” which topped the Gaon Digital Chart and became the best-performing single of that year. Their debut music video set records, becoming one of the most-viewed debut music videos in K-pop history by surpassing 100 million views within five months .In June 2017, TWICE made their Japanese debut and became the first Korean girl group to earn Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan . Over the years, they have released numerous chart-topping hits and established themselves as one of the leading K-pop groups globally.
