K-pop powerhouse i-dle is making waves this May with the highly anticipated release of their 8th mini album, “We are,” and a series of captivating concept images that have set the internet abuzz. The group, formerly known as (G)I-DLE, recently announced a significant rebrand, dropping the “G” from their name to embrace a broader, more inclusive identity. This change marks not just a new chapter for the group but also coincides with their seventh anniversary, making the comeback especially meaningful for both members and fans.
The rebrand was symbolically introduced through a striking black-and-white teaser video, where the members gathered around a coffin marked with the letter “G,” visually bidding farewell to the limitations of their former moniker. According to Cube Entertainment, the removal of the “G” reflects a step away from gendered labels, allowing i-dle to present themselves without boundaries or qualifiers.
To commemorate their anniversary and new identity, i-dle released a special mini album, “We are i-dle,” on May 2, featuring re-recorded versions of their greatest hits with the current five-member lineup: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. Classics like “LATATA,” “HANN (Alone),” and “LION” have been given a fresh twist, blending nostalgia with the group’s ongoing evolution.
As anticipation builds for the official release of “We are” on May 19, i-dle has been steadily unveiling a series of concept images and teasers. The latest photos showcase the members in a moody, gothic-inspired setting, exuding both elegance and emotional depth. Posing in vintage cars and against stark cement backdrops, the group projects an air of sophisticated detachment, hinting at the mature themes and artistry fans can expect from the album.
“We are” is particularly significant as it marks i-dle’s first full-group comeback since all members renewed their contracts with Cube Entertainment. The album’s release is accompanied by a variety of collectible versions, including photobooks, postcards, and exclusive photocards, further fueling excitement among collectors and fans worldwide.
With a pre-release music video for the track “Girlfriend” already generating buzz, i-dle’s comeback is poised to reinforce their status as one of K-pop’s most dynamic and forward-thinking girl groups. As they step confidently into this new era, i-dle’s message is clear: they are ready to define themselves on their own terms, promising fresh music, bold visuals, and a limitless future
