Jeon Somi recently announced the launch of her makeup brand, GLYF in collaboration with Allure Korea.
The Dumb Dumb singer has been working around the clock for her brand since 2023.
Talking about the process of her products, Somi revealed that she took inspiration from ancient hieroglyphs, written in different shapes and meanings.
The singer expressed her interest in establishing a brand that goes with her vision.
In the video posted by the outlet, she shared: “GLYF was created with inspiration from ancient hieroglyphs, glyphs. Like ancient hieroglyphs with different shapes and meanings, I interpret my cosmetics in my own way and express the beauty that each person has.”
Jeon Somi explained that GLYF promotes freedom of choice and expression among potential customers.
She admitted to have added modern flairs to the ancient thought-process, making the name more impressive.
The news broke out like wildfire, making headlines shortly after the brand was announced. Fans left heartfelt comments under the celebrity’s post, rooting for her.

Who Is Jeon Somi?
Jeon Somi (전소미), also known simply as Somi, is a South Korean-Canadian-Dutch singer-songwriter under The Black Label. She is a former member of the project girl groups I.O.I, Unnies, Girls Next Door and a former pre-debut member of ITZY. She made her solo debut on 13 June 2019 with the digital single “Birthday”.
2015: SIXTEEN
In May 2015, she took part in the reality survival show SIXTEEN. She was eliminated in the final episode after finishing in 9th place.
2016: Produce 101 and I.O.I
In 2016, she participated in Mnet’s survival television show Produce 101 as a trainee representing JYP Entertainment. She finished the survival in first place and became the centre of the girl group I.O.I. On 4 May 2016, the group debuted with the mini album Chrysalis and its title track “Dream Girls”. From October 2016 to April 2017, Somi, along with UP10TION’s Wooshin, hosted the sixth season of the music show The Show.
2017: Unnies, Girls Next Door, solo activities
After the disbandment of I.O.I. on the 29th of January, Somi signed an official artist contract with JYP Entertainment, allowing her to pursue solo activities and brand endorsements until her official debut. She then joined the second season of the variety show Sister’s Slam Dunk on 10 February, before making her debut as a member of the special girl group Unnies in May 2017. Somi was then cast in the reality drama show Idol Drama Operation Team in May 2017 as a representative of I.O.I. She played the role of a high school student named Bo-ram, and later became part of a special girl group called Girls Next Door, which was formed by her fellow cast members in July 2017.
2018: New label
On 20 August 2018, it was announced that Somi had left JYP Entertainment, and it was confirmed that she had joined YG Entertainment’s sub-label The Black Label on 23 September 2018. In late November, it was reported that Somi was working on new music with the goal of releasing a solo debut in March 2019. It was later scheduled for 1 May, then pushed back to the end of May and finally 13 June.
2019: “Birthday”, I.O.I. reunion
Finally, on 13 June, Somi made her debut as a solo artist with the digital single album “Birthday”. She also performed the other track “Outta My Head” on music shows.
2020: I Am Somi & “What You Waiting For
On 28 March, Somi’s first solo reality series entitled I Am Somi began airing on The Black Label’s YouTube channel.
On 14 July, she announced that she would be making a comeback with a single entitled “What You Waiting For”.
2021: “Dumb Dumb” & XOXO
On 22 July, she announced the release of her single “Dumb Dumb”. On 30 September, she teased her upcoming album titled XOXO. On 14 October, Somi confirmed that she would be making a comeback with her first full-length album at the end of the month. XOXO was released on 29 October with “XOXO” serving as the album’s title track.
2023: Game Plan
On 2 June, The Black Label revealed to Star News that Somi was preparing for a comeback. On 18 July it was reported that Somi would be making a comeback in August. Later that day, The Black Label confirmed the reports. On 24 July it was announced that Somi would be releasing her first EP, entitled Game Plan, on 7 August.
