When NYLON JAPAN announced Junkyu and Asahi of TREASURE as the cover stars for its Global Issue 06, it marked more than just a stylish photoshoot—it was a cultural moment that underscores the deepening bond between K-pop and global youth fashion media. TREASURE, a South Korean boy band formed by YG Entertainment in 2019, has rapidly ascended the ranks of K-pop stardom. The group, currently consisting of ten members, has captivated audiences since their debut with “The First Step: Chapter One” in 2020, a release that quickly achieved over a million sales in just five months.  Their journey began with the intense competition of the reality show YG Treasure Box, where trainees vied for a spot in the final lineup, culminating in the formation of a group that blends diverse talents and backgrounds.

Junkyu and Asahi, now co-leaders of TREASURE as of January 2025, represent a new chapter for the band. The leadership rotation, unique in the K-pop industry, was implemented to foster growth and shared responsibility among members, with each leader serving a two-year term.  Both Junkyu and Asahi have spoken candidly about the pressures and challenges of their roles. While there are no material incentives for the position, the duo emphasized that sharing the responsibility helps them support each other and maintain the group’s momentum. Their joint aim is to uphold the high standards set by their predecessors and ensure TREASURE’s continued success.

NYLON JAPAN, founded in 2004 as the Japanese edition of the iconic American magazine, has long been a tastemaker at the intersection of fashion, music, and youth culture. Known for its edgy visuals and trendsetting features, NYLON JAPAN has become a favorite platform for K-pop idols and fans alike. The magazine’s global issues, in particular, spotlight influential artists who are shaping contemporary culture, making it a coveted feature for rising stars and established acts. K-pop groups regularly appear in its pages, reflecting the genre’s immense popularity in Japan and its growing influence worldwide.

For K-pop fans, NYLON JAPAN offers more than glossy images; it provides a rare glimpse into the personalities and creative visions of their favorite idols. The magazine’s collaborations with groups like TREASURE are celebrated events, often trending on social media and sparking conversations across international fan communities. TREASURE’s appearance in Global Issue 06 is especially significant as it highlights not only their evolving style but also their leadership transition—a narrative that resonates with fans invested in the group’s growth and future.

As Junkyu and Asahi step into their leadership roles, their feature in NYLON JAPAN symbolizes both their personal journeys and the enduring appeal of K-pop in the global fashion landscape. The partnership between TREASURE and NYLON JAPAN exemplifies how music, style, and youth culture continue to converge, creating moments that resonate far beyond the pages of a magazine.
