K-pop fans were met with bittersweet news on August 27, 2024, as Woollim Entertainment announced significant changes to the lineup of popular boy group Golden Child. The agency revealed that they have successfully renewed exclusive contracts with five members: Lee Jangjun, Bae Seungmin, Bong Jaehyun, Kim Donghyun, and Hong Joochan.
These five members will continue their journey with Golden Child, alongside Lee Daeyeol and Y, forming a seven-member group moving forward. Lee Daeyeol, who was discharged from military service in September 2023, and Y, who is currently serving and set to be discharged in September 2024, will rejoin the group’s activities upon completion of their military duties.
However, the announcement also brought news of departures. TAG, Kim Jibeom, and Choi Bomin have decided to part ways with both Golden Child and Woollim Entertainment as their contracts concluded. The agency expressed gratitude for their time with the group and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Golden Child, which debuted in August 2017, has built a strong fanbase known as “Goldenness” over the years. The group has consistently delivered impressive performances and memorable music, earning them a special place in the hearts of K-pop enthusiasts.
Woollim Entertainment assured fans that Golden Child will continue to engage with their audience through both group and individual projects. This transition marks a new chapter for the group, and fans are eager to see how their sound and dynamic will evolve with the adjusted lineup.
As the K-pop industry continues to evolve, such changes in group compositions are not uncommon. Fans are encouraged to support both the continuing members of Golden Child and those embarking on new paths. The resilience and adaptability of K-pop groups often lead to exciting new developments, and many are looking forward to what the future holds for Golden Child in its new formation.
