Rise Of The Queens
2NE1 debuted in May of 2009 under YG Entertainment with the song “Fire” as their official debut single. Before their debut, they first appeared with BigBang in “Lollipop”. The song is a commercial campaign for an electronic brand. Just like fire, the news about this group spread effortlessly and widely, that its fanbase reached the international scene.
2NE1 is known to create music with the Girl Crush concept which showcases confidence, fierceness, and empowerment of female idols. They already caught attention because of the uniqueness of their style which is evident in their music and fashion. They were very different from almost all of the female Kpop groups in that era who were either showing cute or sexy concepts. This is the reason why they are called “Badass”.
They also released other top hits songs like I Don’t Care, I Am The Best, and Come Back Home.
After their debut, they already won awards such as MAMA Best Female Group,MAMA Album of the Year, and MAMA Song of The Year for I Don’t Care.
For 7 years they toured several countries, made songs, released albums, received many more awards, and then finally on November 25, 2016, the Kpop group decided to disband.
The group performed at Coachella last April 2022. It was the first time the group was seen together and performed 7 years after their disbandment.
Recent Activities
While there are no updates whether there will be a comeback, each member of 2NE1 is engaged in their individual activities.
CL is still active in doing music as a solo artist. She was also seen attending fashion shows and recently did a cover for Vogue Korea magazine.
Dara is very active on her Youtube channel DARA TV. In her recent post, she is visiting the Philippines with Minzy. Before being a Kpop idol, she was a very well known actress in the Philippines. She is known for her bubbly and cheerful personality.
Both CL and Dara are expected to attend the Waterbomb Singapore 2024 which will be on August 25. CL will also attend the Waterbomb Dubai in June, and the Waterbomb Japan in July.
Park Bom is also active in making music and is now under D-Nation Entertainment. Her last release was in December 2023 titled “I” featuring Dawn.
Minzy, the group’s dance machine, is now under MZ Entertainment. By the name of the agency, we can already have a hint of who founded it; it’s Minzy herself. She built it in October of 2020.
We could only hope to see them perform together on stage once again.
