BTS’s J-Hope has broken UK music records with his new single featuring American rapper J. Cole.

On the Street, debuted at No. 37 on the UK Official Singles Chart yesterday, making J-Hope the first Kpop solo artist in history to enter the Top 40 list.

J-Hope is now the only BTS member to have a solo single in the Top 40 UK Official Charts, the closest member being RM with Indigo at No. 45.

The singer’s previous tracks MORE and Chicken Noodle Soup came in at No. 70 and No. 82 respectively.

Rapper Psy was the only other Korean solo artist to have had three songs enter the Top 100 UK Singles Chart with Gangnam Style, Gentleman, and That That, all at No. 61.

The hip-hop track, co-written by J. Cole, was inspired by J-Hope’s early days as a breakdancer before enrolling as an idol trainee.

In a statement from Big Hit Entertainment, he revealed that he wanted to use the street motif as it was ‘a place where many people’s everyday lives pass by’.
